The Biden Administration has begun their dedication to climate change and lowering the country’s carbon footprint. One of the ways they plan on accomplishing this goal is by switching to clean energy away from fossil fuels and those harmful to the environment. Solar power has been gaining lots of traction as a way for homeowners and businesses to lower their electricity usage and use renewable energy.

California is one of the leading states taking part in climate change initiatives. They have numerous legislations that could be enacted into law. One of these laws could help support community solar. The goal for community solar is to help people who cannot access solar panels for their homes. Some homeowners do not have the ability to install solar panels due to the location of their homes and roof. Either they are covered by too many trees to gain enough sunlight, or their roof doesn’t face in the right direction to get enough sunlight. Other issues consist of people who rent their homes, live in condominiums or apartment buildings, or aren’t permitted solar panels due to HOA regulations.

The goal of this bill is to help provide people in lower income areas with solar energy. Some utility companies have an option to use clean energy, but it doesn’t always help them save money due to the surcharges that energy companies can tack onto their bills. With community solar, it helps improve energy equity across lower income neighborhoods.
