A New Program Helped Local Business Revitalize their Signage

Gloucester, Massachusetts, just distributed grants to various businesses across their town as a part of a program to help local businesses get back on track after the pandemic. The city’s Retail Sign Improvement grants were given to 26 businesses out of 58 to help them improve their exterior signage as a way to revitalize the community. This program is a part of the Local Rapid Recovery Plan created by the city officials.

Many of the guidelines are based on cost, code adherence, city guidelines and how long a business has been at their location. Some special considerations were given to businesses owned by veterans, people of color and women. This program has hopes to continue on for further years and businesses that were not chosen this year are able to reapply in other years.

Exterior signage is a prime way for businesses to attract customers. The new signage can help these improve their business by having the appearance of their retail store look more attractive. Especially when dark, having a well-lit exterior signage can bring more attention to businesses by making them become more seen. When people are able to see the retail stores, it will help improve sales.
